Our Mission
At Comox Valley Cares, our mission is simple yet powerful:
to connect neighbors with neighbors, creating a community safety net of compassion, dignity, and practical support.
We believe that no one in the Comox Valley should have to face hardship alone — whether it’s putting food on the table, paying rent, covering a bill, or finding an odd job to make ends meet.
How We Started
Comox Valley Cares began as a grassroots idea from Jason Robertson of Cumberland, BC.
Over six months, Jason quietly and personally donated to several local community members who were struggling between paychecks. These were small acts of kindness — a grocery top-up here, a bill payment there — but each one carried a big impact.
The turning point came when the community rallied to help a 78-year-old neighbor replace a vandalized window that had been shattered by a rock. Through a GoFundMe campaign, $1,600 was raised, and Jason pledged to personally match that amount, bringing the total to $3,200. Not only was the window replaced, but the funds also helped cover several other stressful bills for this community member, living on a tight pension.
The outpouring of support was overwhelming. It revealed something powerful: the community had been looking for a way to come together, to give, and to care.
Our Goals
Comox Valley Cares was built on that spark of compassion. As we grow, we’re working to:
- Provide Micro-Grants – Quick, judgment-free support for food, rent, and urgent bills.
- Connect Odd Jobs – Help neighbors earn extra income by offering and completing small tasks.
- Support Volunteers – Create meaningful opportunities for people to give back with their time and talents.
- Build Trust & Transparency – Ensure that every dollar and every effort directly benefits those who need it most.
Looking Ahead
We’re still building our structure and offerings, but our vision is clear: to make compassion the cornerstone of our community.
By working together, we can transform small acts of kindness into lasting change — and ensure that the Comox Valley remains a place where everyone belongs, and everyone is cared for.
